Workshop: Hydrogen Safety in Education

This Webinar is the first session of the hydrogen safety programme and provides participants with a comprehensive foundation in HSE. The course offers an accessible technicall introduction to hydrogen as an energy source, its physical and chemical properties, and the specific safety considerations that arise when working with hydrogen in teaching laboratories, training centres, and research facilities. Participants will gain a clear understanding of risk awareness, hazard identification, and the fundamental principles of prevention and mitigation.

Key topics include:

• Introduction to relevant regulations, standards, and safety guidelines

• Basic properties of hydrogen (flammability range, ignition energy, diffusion behaviour)

• Typical risk scenarios in educational settings

• Safe storage, handling, and transport in laboratory environments

• Emergency response principles and incident management

In addition to technical fundamentals, the session introduces the structure, objectives, and learning pathway of the overall hydrogen safety programme. Participants will learn how the different modules build upon each other and how the programme supports educators, laboratory staff, safety officers, and trainers in developing sustainable hydrogen safety competence.

Target Group

The course is especially for People in the working in HSE (Health Safety Environment) or anyone who is intressed in the  safty aspects about hydrogen within educational environments.
